About AGM Batteries…
AGM stands for Absorbed Glass Mat. This refers to the construction of the battery.
AGM batteries differ from flooded lead acid batteries (wet) like common automotive batteries, in that the electrolyte is held in the glass mats, as opposed to freely flooding the plates. Very thin glass fibres are woven into a mat to increase surface area enough to hold sufficient electrolyte on the cells for their lifetime. The fibres that compose the fine glass mat do not absorb nor are they affected by the acidic electrolyte.
AGM batteries can be fitted in any orientation, and do not require constant maintenance. However this does not mean they shouldn’t be regularly cleaned and tested.
AGM batteries have a cycle life of approx. 300 cycles to 80% depth of discharge. Although AGM batteries will not match the cycle-life performance of Gel batteries, they do offer a lower initial cost and will supply sufficient functionality to meet the less critical needs of certain lighter duty mobility applications. 55ah batteries for sale near me
